There are lots of myths and different views regarding the use of Social Media and how it affects students and their education.
There is so much opportunity in Social Media today that when one door closes, there are so many you can try an open. There are opportunities for students online today that were not available to their parents and grandparents when they were growing up.
In Social Media and education there are pros and cons regarding this.
Cons:
• Students relying on the internet to provide answers
• Students becoming lazy and reduce focus of learning and understanding information.
• Students spending more time on social media sites and less time socialising in person.
• Most students do not think about the content they publishing online and how it will affect them in the future.
Pros:
• Many social media sites teach students the valuable skills they will need to survive in the business world.
• Students can be identified for job opportunities if positioned correctly.
• Connecting with people all over the world, breaking down barriers, building relationships and understanding each others culture.
• Students have access to a world of opportunity on the social media platforms, most access being free.
Social media is here and it’s growing. With the increase focus on technology in business, students now have the opportunity to prepare themselves for the job market and build skills to aid them throughout their lives.
