Software Week takes place from Saturday the 13th to Friday the 19th of October 2012. The inaugural Annual Software Week is a celebration and a gathering for stakeholders of a growing and maturing software industry. It is an event for people who are passionate about the software industry and profession in Africa. It aims to create awareness of what a vibrant software industry means for the region and the broader continent of Africa.
While there are many challenges facing the growing software industry in Africa and South Africa, there is also hope in the leveling playing field being created by advancements in technology. The growth of mobile penetration, the relative ease of building internet and cloud based services and the growth in e-commerce are all positive indicators for the software industry.
The Software Week Conference is aimed at dealing with the impediments and issues that the software industry faces with a view to finding answers through collaboration and engagement. The software industry and profession matters because so much of our world today relies on software and it is an important pathway to developing skills and creating jobs in a knowledge economy.
